Kennedy Agyapong's campaign team provides clarification on his "showdown" comment

The campaign team of Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a flagbearer hopeful in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has issued a clarification regarding his recent comment about a potential "showdown" with President Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia during the party's special delegates conference. They emphasize that the comment was not intended as a threat.

In a video, Agyapong, who is also a Member of Parliament for Assin Central, used the term "showdown" in reference to the President and Vice President. This raised concerns and prompted the NPP to consider possible disciplinary action against him.

During a press conference, Agyapong's campaign manager, Kwame Owusu, clarified that the term "showdown" was used to express Agyapong's strong determination to achieve victory in the November 4 polls. It was not meant to imply any intended confrontation or hostility towards the Vice President or President.

Mr. Owusu explained, "The term 'showdown' indicates a decisive point in either a confrontation or a contest. It meant that come November, regardless of the circumstances, Agyapong intends to emerge as the victor."

He further emphasized, "So, it's a showdown, a decisive confrontation and contest... It is not a threat, and there is no need for concern. It is simply a statement expressed in a different manner."

The campaign team also reassured that Agyapong is fully willing to cooperate with the party's disciplinary process.

This clarification aims to provide a better understanding of Agyapong's comment and dispel any misinterpretation of his intentions.
