Flooding in the town of Buipe, which is located in the Central Gonja District in the Savannah Region, has forced some 1,500 residents to flee.

NADMO's Central Gonja office stated that 348 boys and 427 girls, as well as 239 adult males and 230 adult females, had to leave their houses due to the disaster. Three public restrooms and countless private restrooms have been inundated by flooding, creating possible health issues.

Additionally, three private schools have been flooded, along with fifty acres of farmland and food storage facilities. In an interview with MyJoyOnline, Mohammed Mustapha, the NADMO's Central Gonja District Director, expressed his displeasure. He charged the Bui Dam management with negligence for failing to inform the impacted residents, going against their earlier assurance.

Mustapha lamented, "Before the water spillage this season, the management of Bui Dam told us they would come because their water level was still high, and we should prepare a budget to sensitize people around the river banks. We collaborated and submitted the budget to Bui Dam as requested." However, after the submission, the dam management failed to communicate or show up until the residents began experiencing flooding. He criticized the Bui Dam management for not fulfilling their commitment.

The director recalled a similar incident last year when the dam denied a spillage but later visited Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor I to claim responsibility. He commended the Ghana Red Cross Society for their ongoing support, mentioning the provision of home kits and volunteers to help evacuate the victims. The Ghana Education Service (GES) also offered a six-unit primary school block for the displaced individuals.

Mohammed Mustapha appealed for collaboration between the government and traditional rulers to facilitate the permanent relocation of affected residents.
