A fire on Monday caused damage to a portion of the chambers belonging to Justice Mohammed Saulawa of the Supreme Court. The fire, suspected to have originated in the chambers located on the third floor of the court complex, was promptly extinguished with the assistance of the court's fire department and the federal fire services.
While confirming the incident, Supreme Court spokesperson Festus Akande clarified that the fire was not as severe as it may have appeared on social media. He explained that the fire likely resulted from an electrical fault in the justice's chambers and emphasized that it did not engulf the entire Supreme Court building. Mr. Akande refrained from disclosing the name of the affected Supreme Court justice.
According to information gathered by PREMIUM TIMES, court staff made efforts to salvage some documents before the arrival of the fire services. Thanks to the prompt response of the fire department, which was joined by the external fire services, the fire was contained and prevented from spreading to adjoining chambers and other sections of the complex.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of fire safety measures and the quick response of emergency services in preventing further damage and ensuring the safety of the premises.
