George Afriyie |
After being disqualified from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidential election, George Afriyie took to Facebook to share an enigmatic message. His post read, "At his own appointed time."
This concise and cryptic statement has left the Ghanaian football community speculating about its meaning. It suggests that Afriyie may be adopting a philosophical outlook in response to his disqualification, indicating a sense of resignation and trust in the timing of events.
George Afriyie is no stranger to the complexities and challenges of Ghanaian football politics. Having previously contested the GFA presidency in 2019 and lost to the incumbent Kurt Okraku, his disqualification in the 2023 presidential election adds another layer of complexity to the forthcoming proceedings.
The Vetting Committee's ruling, made public on Wednesday, cited specific reasons for George Afriyie's disqualification. These reasons included a violation of "Article 13(2)(j) of the Ghana Football Association statutes, 2019," as well as his failure to provide the requisite number of GFA members to support his candidacy.
This decision carries significant implications as the elections, originally scheduled for September 27 in Tamale, may be affected by an ongoing court injunction.
George Afriyie now has a three-day window to appeal the decision.
