Limited Voter Registration - Jean Mensah Assures To Give Registrants The Best

Jean Mensah, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa, emphasized that the Commission's vision is to promote an inclusive and participatory registration process. She stated that the Commission has no intention of disenfranchising eligible voters. While there were some challenges during the first two days of the registration exercise, these issues were promptly resolved.

To address the long queues observed during the first week of the exercise, additional registration stations have been set up at various centers. Furthermore, faulty equipment or machines have been replaced. Chairperson Jean Mensa assured citizens that the Commission is committed to their best interests and aims to register all eligible voters.

During a media briefing at the 'Let The Citizens Know' series on September 18, Jean Mensa also informed Ghanaians that the EC is collaborating with the Ghana Statistical Service to identify areas where registration is low due to limited accessibility to the EC's district offices. Once these areas are determined, the Commission will schedule a mop-up exercise to ensure that all eligible voters are captured on the electoral roll in preparation for the 2024 elections.

In 2024, the EC plans to implement continuous registration at all district offices nationwide for an extended period of time. Additionally, the Commission intends to conduct a mop-up registration exercise in hard-to-reach areas. Jean Mensa emphasized the Commission's commitment to ensuring accessible registration for all eligible voters.

Regarding claims of voter disenfranchisement, particularly in NDC strongholds, the Electoral Commission categorically denied such allegations. The Commission clarified that faulty devices were recorded in all 16 regions except for certain parts of the Savannah region.

It's important to note that the EC's efforts aim to create an inclusive registration process, address challenges, and ensure that every eligible voter has the opportunity to register.
