The Minority Group in Parliament has strongly criticized the Ghana Police Service for the arrest and brutal treatment of the #OccupyJulorbiHouse protestors on September 21. The NDC MPs are of the view that this action by the police is disgraceful and should not be tolerated.

In a press release issued on September 22 and signed by their leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the caucus expressed their outrage and disappointment with the Ghana Police Service for deploying a terror squad of officers who shamefully subjected peaceful demonstrators in Accra to brutality and arrests.

The minority group finds it shocking and unacceptable that in 2023, the police would resort to outdated and backward methods of policing in response to peaceful protestors exercising their lawful and constitutional rights. They strongly condemned the conduct of the police and called on them to adopt modern approaches to policing.

The group also raised concerns about the negative impact this incident would have on the reputation of the police. They firmly condemned the ruthless and barbaric crackdown by the police on unarmed, peaceful protestors. They pointed out that the Ghana Police Service has faced criticism in recent years for its partisan policing methods, and an ongoing parliamentary probe is examining these issues. The violent and oppressive measures taken by the police against the peaceful protestors further tarnish the reputation of the Ghana Police Service.

The minority group emphasized that such actions are not in line with the police's motto of "service with integrity." They expect the police to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and respect for human rights when dealing with demonstrators.
