Two unsuccessful presidential candidates from the two major opposition parties in Nigeria have appealed to the Supreme Court after having their arguments against Bola Ahmed Tinubu's election victory dismissed.
Both Peter Obi of the Labour Party and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party failed to present evidence of irregularities in the election, the electoral petition tribunal concluded unanimously earlier this month.
The tribunal concluded that there was insufficient evidence to back the politicians' claims of voter suppression and overvoting and that they were unable to substantiate their claims. By maintaining Mr. Tinubu's victory, Mr. Abubakar claims the Supreme Court committed a "grave error and miscarriage of justice" and is appealing the decision.

Mr. Atiku as well as Mr. Obi criticized the court for its use of "disparaging words" that they believe showed bias. The hearing dates for the cases have not yet been set.
