Broken Bole dam overflows its boundaries |
The deteriorating condition of the Bole Dam in the Savannah region has raised concerns among residents and motorists, who fear it could pose a serious threat. The dam has become inaccessible due to its poor state, forcing pedestrians and drivers to compete for limited space on the road.
On September 19, 2023, the dam overflowed, causing flooding in the surrounding area and homes of residents. Worried residents believe that if immediate action is not taken by the government and local authorities, any heavy rainfall could lead to the collapse of the dam's bridge, making travel to the Bole township and upper west region impossible for those coming from the southern part of the country.
Mariam Abdul-Rahma, a resident, expressed her distress over the situation and called for government intervention to prevent a potential disaster. Adams Alpha, a bus conductor, highlighted the risks associated with using the road, as portions have been eroded by water.
The Bole township serves as a crucial link between Ghana, the upper west region, and Burkina Faso, with heavy trucks relying on this route. Residents and motorists are appealing to the government for urgent assistance.
