Ukraine has alleged that Admiral Viktor Sokolov, the commander of Russia's Black Sea Fleet, was killed during the Ukrainian attack in Sevastopol on Friday.

According to an update by the Ukrainian Special Operations Forces on Monday, the strike on the headquarters of the Russian Black Sea Fleet resulted in the deaths of 34 officers, including the fleet's commander. Additionally, more than 100 Russian servicemen were reported to be wounded in the incident.

Sevastopol, which houses the headquarters of Russia's Black Sea Fleet, is a major city in the Crimean peninsula that was illegally annexed by Moscow in 2014. Though CNN has not being able to verify Ukraine's claims, CNN has made contact with the Russian Ministry of Defense to obtain their response on the matter.

Moscow has also stated that one serviceman is currently missing as a result of Ukraine's attack on Sevastopol.
