The Russian Embassy in Ghana has issued a statement refuting any connection with an unsanctioned gathering held by a group of young men in Diabene, Western Region. In a rebuttal issued on Wednesday, September 20, the Embassy stated that "neither the Embassy of the Russian Federation nor any other government agency has any link to the aforementioned unapproved event."

The rally, which took place on Sunday, August 13, was led by a group of young men between the ages of 23 and 26, who demonstrated support for the Russian mercenary group, Wagner. However, the group was apprehended and presented before the Takoradi Harbour Circuit Court. They were subsequently released on bail.

The Embassy's statement noted that it immediately notified the Ghana Police Service upon being apprised of the group's assembly. It also stated that it cautioned against the use of national symbols of the Russian Federation during the rally.

The statement further asserted that the Embassy was not involved in distributing Russian flags, placards, t-shirts, or any other materials among the protestors or establishing contact with potential sponsors of the unrest, including foreign entities.

It expressed confidence in Ghana's legal process to identify all those implicated in the commotion to ensure that justice is served. Additionally, it cited its strict adherence to the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. The Embassy emphasizes its ongoing efforts to foster mutually respectful relations with Ghanaian partners for the benefit of both nations' peoples.
