Departure hall of Singapore's Changi Airport |
Singapore's Changi Airport is set to introduce automated immigration clearance in 2024, allowing passengers to depart without passports using biometric data.
The move aims to reduce the need for physical travel documents and create a more seamless and convenient processing experience. Biometric technology and facial recognition software are already in use at the airport's automated lanes.
However, passports will still be required for countries that do not offer passport-free clearance. Changi Airport, known for its efficiency and ranked as one of the world's best, serves over 100 airlines and handles millions of passenger movements each month.
The upcoming biometric system is expected to help manage the growing volume of travelers and provide a positive clearance experience.
