8 New Members Sworn Into Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC)

In a significant development for Ghana's petroleum sector, eight new members have been formally sworn into office as part of the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC). The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Ministry of Finance, where the Chief Director, Eva Mends, officiated on behalf of the Minister for Finance. The new members were reminded of their crucial role in supporting the government in ensuring the responsible management and effective utilization of Ghana's petroleum revenues.

The appointment of these new members follows the completion of the terms of their predecessors, adhering to the provisions set forth in the Petroleum Revenue Management Act, 2011 (Act 815). Some members will serve a renewable two-year term, while others will serve a non-renewable three-year term. All eight members, representing various nominated institutions, took both the Oath of Office and the Oath of Secrecy, signifying their commitment to their duties.

Let us meet the new members who are now part of the esteemed PIAC. Sena Dake, representing the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG), has joined the committee, along with Nana Kwaku Dei (Ransford Tetteh), representing the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), and Richard Ellimah, representing Civil Society (CSOs)/Community-Based Organizations (CBOs). Also included are Edward Yaw Afriyie, representing the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) and Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI).

Completing the roster are Dr. Noble Ibrahim Adjin Lartey, representing the Muslim Groups; Constantine Kudzedzi, representing the Christian Groups; and Christopher Opoku Nyarko, representing the Ghana Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (GHEITI). Additionally, Odeefuo Amoakwa Buadu VIII, representing the National House of Chiefs, had his tenure renewed by the nominating institution and was sworn in alongside the new members.

During her address, Ms. Mends extended congratulations to the new members and emphasized the importance of teamwork in fulfilling PIAC's mandate as an independent oversight body, dedicated to promoting transparency and accountability in the management of petroleum revenues. She expressed appreciation for the outgoing members' diligent work and acknowledged the Ministry of Finance's continued commitment to supporting PIAC and ensuring prudent financial management.

Ms. Mends urged the new members to collaborate with the Ministry in their collective effort to ensure that petroleum revenues benefit all citizens of Ghana, creating positive impacts across various sectors. This collaboration between PIAC and the Ministry of Finance plays a vital role in promoting good governance, effective financial management, and inclusive development in the country.
