Kurt Okraku has been re-elected as the president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) with an overwhelming majority. Okraku, who ran unopposed after his only rival George Afriyie was disqualified, received 117 out of 120 votes at the GFA Elective Congress in Tamale on October 5, 2023.

Okraku's victory represents a remarkable 98.3% of the total votes cast by GFA members. His re-election comes after he first won the presidency four years ago, defeating Afriyie in that race as well.

Afriyie's disqualification was due to his failure to provide the required number of GFA members to endorse his candidacy. Despite filing an injunction and contesting his disqualification at the Court of Arbitration for Sport, the elections proceeded as scheduled.

The decision to proceed with the elections was justified by the fact that the current administration's tenure would end on October 25, and it was crucial to avoid a period without leadership in the FA.

Okraku's re-election ensures continuity in the leadership of the GFA. His overwhelming majority demonstrates the support and confidence placed in him by GFA members. As he begins his second term, Okraku will face the challenge of further developing Ghanaian football and addressing any lingering issues within the organization.
