The University of Ghana has achieved yet another remarkable milestone with the establishment of the 'University of Ghana - Toyota Ghana School of Engineering Training Centre'. This training centre is a collaborative effort between the School of Engineering Sciences at the University of Ghana and Toyota Ghana. The partnership not only includes the provision of engineering equipment from Toyota Ghana for the next decade but also establishes a scholarship fund to support financially challenged but brilliant engineering science students.
The newly established training centre boasts three spacious lecture rooms capable of accommodating up to 250 students, an aided design room equipped with 40 computers, and 3D printing machines. Additionally, the centre features a practical workshop to provide students with hands-on experience.
During the commissioning of the project on October 26, the Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, extended his congratulations to the initiators of this training centre. He emphasized the significance of STEM education and highlighted the need to prioritize science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in Ghana's education sector. Dr. Adutwum encouraged the cultivation of critical minds to drive progress and mentioned the disparity between the number of engineers produced in Vietnam compared to Ghana. This collaboration with Toyota Ghana serves as a testament to the government's commitment to advancing STEM education in the country.
Kohji Yanaka, the Managing Director of Toyota Ghana, expressed that the partnership goes beyond recruitment and is a commitment to fostering talent and encouraging innovation. The collaboration aims to nurture aspiring engineers and contribute to Ghana's development.
The Minister for Trade and Industry, Kobina Tahir Hammond, lauded the establishment of the training centre. In a speech read on his behalf by the Chief Director of the Ministry, Patrick Yaw Nimo, he expressed confidence that the centre will produce highly skilled engineers who will contribute to the growth of Ghana in the coming years.
To facilitate students' movement, a Toyota Coastal 33-seater bus was also handed over to the centre, providing convenient transportation for students.
