Garland, having previously pleaded guilty to racially aggravated harassment in August, had received a sentence of 60 hours of unpaid work and a fine of £1,384. This initial sentence, however, faced an appeal from both Tottenham and the Metropolitan Police, ultimately resulting in the imposition of the three-year football banning order. The order entails Garland being prohibited from attending any regulated football matches for the next three years, and during international fixtures, he will be required to surrender his passport.

Son Heung-min reported the discriminatory behavior to the authorities, emphasizing that he had not provoked or incited any form of racist treatment during the match. His proactive stance in addressing the situation is a reflection of the mounting resolve to combat racism within the sports arena.

The Premier League welcomed the banning order, underlining the significance of holding individuals accountable for their discriminatory actions. This response sends a resounding message that such reprehensible behavior will not be condoned or tolerated within football and sports at large.

Tottenham, standing in solidarity with Son Heung-min, reiterated its firm commitment to taking robust action against individuals responsible for such incidents. The club highlighted its unequivocal stance against all manifestations of discrimination, affirming its dedication to promoting inclusivity and respect within the football community.
