The Fair Trade Ghana Network has warned that Ghana's position as a top cocoa exporter is at risk due to encroachment by real estate developers. The President of the network, Florence Blankson, highlighted the threats posed by deforestation and illegal mining activities to cocoa farmers, urging the government to take urgent action to address these issues.

Speaking at the 6th Annual General Meeting of Fair Trade Ghana Network, Blankson expressed concern over the government's lack of proactive measures to tackle challenges facing the cocoa sector. She emphasized the need for government agencies to engage with stakeholders in the sector to ensure sustainability.
Blankson also raised alarm over the takeover of cocoa farmlands by real estate developers, warning that Ghana may lose its global position as a cocoa exporter if these issues are not addressed promptly. She cited the state of water bodies, comparing them to tea, as evidence of the environmental impact of these activities.
