Thomas Partey and Mohammed Kudus Nominated for CAF Men's Footballer of the Year Award


Ghanaian football stars Thomas Partey and Mohammed Kudus have been nominated by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for the Men's Footballer of the Year award. The nominations were announced on Wednesday, November 1, 2023.

Both players, who are part of Ghana's senior men's football team, the Black Stars, are plying their trade in the English Premier League. Mohammed Kudus, an attacking midfielder or right winger, joined West Ham United from Ajax Amsterdam in the summer, while Thomas Partey, a defensive midfielder or right-back, plays for Arsenal following his transfer from Atletico Madrid in October 2020.

These Ghanaian superstars had the opportunity to represent the Black Stars at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar 2022, showcasing their talent on the global stage.

According to CAF, a panel of technical experts, African football legends, and selected media representatives from various countries compiled the preliminary list for the award categories. The period under consideration for the nominees' performance is from November 2022 to September 2023.

For the Men's Footballer of the Year award, the list was narrowed down to 30 nominees. Other coveted awards include the CAF Interclub Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, National Team of the Year, Club of the Year, and Young Player of the Year (for players under 21), each having 20 or 10 nominees.

The winners of each category will be determined through a voting process involving the CAF Technical Committee, media professionals, head coaches, and captains of member associations and clubs participating in the group stages of the interclub competitions.

It's worth mentioning that in the previous Awards Gala held in July 2022 in Rabat, Morocco, Senegal forward Sadio Mane was crowned the CAF African Player of the Year, while Nigeria's Asisat Oshoala claimed the CAF African Women's Player of the Year title for a record fifth time.

The upcoming Awards Gala is scheduled to take place on Monday, December 11, 2023, in Marrakech, Morocco, where the winners in each category will be announced and celebrated.
