The public debt of Ghana dropped to GH¢567.3 billion as of September 2023, or 66.4 percent of GDP, according to new data released by the Bank of Ghana. From GH¢581.5 billion in June 2023 to this amount, there has been a decrease of GH¢14.2 billion. The public debt of the nation has risen by GH¢8.5 billion since January 2023 and GH¢88.5 billion since September 2022, according to the Summary of Economic and Financial Data for November 2023 data.
The entire debt stock was valued at US$51.0 billion as of June 2023, expressed in US dollars. The total amount of debt, both domestic and foreign, was GH¢240.6 billion (US29.4 billion). June 2023 saw slight reductions in both domestic and external debt where external debt decreased to GH¢326.7 billion and domestic debt declined by GH¢12.3 billion.
Additionally, Ghana's nominal Gross Domestic Product was reported to be GH¢854.8 billion as of September 2023, up from the GH¢610.2 billion recorded in September 2022.
