Irish restaurant owner and chef Alan Fisher has made history by breaking two cooking-related Guinness World Records titles. His first remarkable achievement is the longest cooking marathon (individual), with an impressive time of 119 hours and 57 minutes. This surpasses the previous record held by Nigerian chef Hilda Baci who cooked for 93 hours and 11 minutes. Alan then claimed the longest baking marathon (individual), with a time of 47 hours and 21 minutes, surpassing the previous record held by Wendy Sandner (USA). What's even more impressive is that Alan took on both attempts back to back, meaning he was at work in the kitchen for over 160 hours with just over a day of rest in between.

Alan's journey to breaking these records began in 2008 when he accepted a job offer at a company in Tokyo through an overseas graduate program after graduating from Dublin City University. About six years later, he established himself in Tokyo and met his wife, who would become his business partner. In August 2014, Alan started his own business, Kyojin Stewhouse, which focuses on Irish food and culture. The idea was to recreate Irish culture in Japan through traditional Irish dishes such as stews, soups, homemade breads, and potatoes.
Alan learned about the longest-casting marathon record while participating in the "I Love Ireland" festival in Tokyo and was inspired by the achievements of previous record holders. Despite facing challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, including losing reservations and needing a pandemic support loan to stay in business, Alan channeled his frustration and negativity into something positive by taking on the record-breaking journey himself.
