"If You Want NPP To Break The Eight, Step Down Now And Hand Over To Bawumia." - Charles Owusu To Akufo-Addo

(Charles Owusu)

In a recent panel discussion on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo, Charles Owusu, the former Head of the Monitoring Unit at the Forestry Commission, has expressed his belief that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo should step down from his role and hand over his administration to his Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. This call for resignation comes as part of the ongoing leadership transition within the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Owusu emphasized the importance of enabling Vice President Bawumia to assume leadership, thereby allowing Ghanaians to witness firsthand whether he can execute his own visions and initiatives effectively. According to Owusu, this move would not only provide an opportunity for Dr. Bawumia to demonstrate his capabilities but also allow the public to better evaluate his potential as a leader in the months leading up to the 2024 elections.

"Akufo-Addo has worked, but if he wants things to be better, he should hand over the presidency to Bawumia and let us see what he can do," Owusu stated, highlighting the need for Dr. Bawumia to have the chance to implement his own ideas and showcase his leadership acumen.

This call for leadership transition aligns with the recent political developments within the NPP. Following Dr. Bawumia's victory in the party's presidential primaries, as dictated by the NPP's constitution, he is set to assume the role of the new leader of the party, gradually signaling the end of President Akufo-Addo's leadership within the NPP. Akufo-Addo has held the position of the party's leader since 2007, making this transition a significant shift in the party's hierarchy.
