Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, the Member of Parliament for Odododiodio, has announced his departure from the house, citing overwhelming frustration as the primary impetus behind this decision. This revelation came to light during an interview with Citi FM on Thursday, November 16, where the former Youth and Sports Minister voiced his discontent with the prevailing absence of protection for MPs by political parties, exposing them to various pressures that hinder their effectiveness.

Vanderpuye emphasized that the frustration he experienced is a shared sentiment among many MPs from diverse party affiliations, contributing to a troublingly high attrition rate within the House. This high turnover, as expressed by Vanderpuye, has the adverse effect of preventing MPs from accruing the requisite experience vital for effective contributions to the work of Parliament. He lamented the lack of a conducive environment that would allow members to harmonize their talents and competencies, thus fostering more productive parliamentary engagements.

Moreover, Vanderpuye highlighted the exemplary parliamentary performance of Speaker Bagbin, attributing his success to a wealth of extensive parliamentary experience. This endorsement underscored the indispensability of prior parliamentary involvement for speakers, demonstrating a clear quality gap between those with and without such experience.
