Mrs. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, the Chief of Staff at the Presidency, has expressed gratitude to those who have projected her as a potential running mate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer. However, she clarified that her primary focus is on ensuring that the NPP elects a candidate who can secure victory in the 2024 election. Speaking to journalists at the NPP headquarters in Accra, Mrs. Osei-Opare emphasized the importance of first lifting up the flagbearer before considering the running mate position.

Mrs. Osei-Opare stated that she had not heard of any specific name being proposed for the running mate position. She acknowledged and thanked those who have mentioned her as a potential choice but reiterated that her focus lies in supporting the party's flagbearer in their pursuit of victory. She emphasized the need to prioritize the selection of a strong and capable flagbearer who can effectively lead the NPP to "break the 8" by securing a third consecutive term in office.

The NPP recently held its primary election on November 4, 2023, to select a presidential candidate for the 2024 general election. The high-stakes election featured notable contestants such as Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Member of Parliament for Assin Central Ken Agyapong, former Minister of Food and Agriculture Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and former Member of Parliament for Mampong Addai Francis Nimoh. The primary involved 204,144 delegates, including polling station executives from 38,622 polling stations across the country.
Mrs. Osei-Opare's remarks indicate her commitment to the party's overarching goal of selecting a strong and capable flagbearer who can effectively lead the NPP's campaign in the upcoming election. By prioritizing the selection of a candidate who can secure victory, the party aims to continue its governance agenda and work towards the development and progress of Ghana.
