The Minority in Parliament has issued a strong warning ahead of the presentation of the 2024 Annual Budget Statement and Economic Policy, scheduled for November 15, 2023. The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament have stated that they will oppose the budget if it fails to address the pressing concerns of ordinary Ghanaians in the face of the current economic challenges.
After the recess, the Ajumaka-Enyan-Essiam MP spoke in Parliament, highlighting the Minority's commitment to alleviating the hardships faced by the Ghanaian populace rather than exacerbating them. The MP emphasized that the existing economic conditions had already made life difficult for ordinary Ghanaians and businesses. Therefore, they cannot support any policy or measure that would further burden the already suffering citizens and businesses.

The MP made it clear that the upcoming budget statement would encounter resistance if it did not prioritize the needs of the people and businesses. This strong stance signals the Minority's determination to advocate for the interests of the people. They are sending a clear message to the government that they will not support a budget that does not address the pressing concerns of the ordinary Ghanaian.
However, the former Deputy Finance Minister clarified that the Minority's position is not intended to obstruct the government from implementing its policies. They want to be on the side of the people, as they have always done throughout Parliament's history.
The Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, is scheduled to present the government's 2024 Annual Budget Statement and Economic Policy to Parliament on November 15, 2023. The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, announced this in Parliament, emphasizing the importance of thoroughly scrutinizing the budget to ensure it serves the needs of all Ghanaians.
