I Still Owe Asante Kotoko - George Owu Admits

Former Asante Kotoko goalkeeper, George Owu, has admitted that he still owes the club financially, nearly two decades after leaving. Owu explained that during his time at the Reds, players were offered loans which were repaid through deductions from their salaries.

He revealed that he was on the loan scheme and did not complete the payments before departing to join Ashanti Gold. In an interview with Dan Kwaku Yeboah, he disclosed that the club never asked for the outstanding amount up until now.

"I owed Kotoko before I left. Yes, I owed the team I played for. I owed them but they never asked for it. During our time, they used to give us loans and deduct them from our salaries but I didn't finish paying before I left." Owu also emphasized the potential benefits for players who perform well for Kotoko, stating, "So I think Kotoko is a team that if you play well, someone wouldn't mind gifting you his car."

He further explained that although Kotoko wanted him to stay, he had made the decision to play for Ashgold, where he spent two years. George Owu joined Asante Kotoko in 2002 from Sekondi Hasaacas and was a fan favorite during his time at the club.

He played a crucial role in Kotoko's qualification for the final of the CAF Confederations Cup, which they ultimately lost to Hearts of Oak.
