Obour hopes to unseat Mr. Kwaku Asante-Boateng, the current MP, after narrowly losing the NPP primary in 2020. He reaffirmed his support for the NPP's "breaking the 8" agenda, which stands for the party's objective of securing a third consecutive term in government in 2024.
Speaking to reporters in Kumasi, Obour stressed his commitment to helping the party succeed and improve its standing in the constituency, where he feels it has underperformed in comparison to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the opposition.
“I am committed to ‘breaking the 8’ and determined to contribute to its success. It is unacceptable for the NDC to perform better than us in our stronghold at Asante Akyem South,” he stated.
Obour outlined his candidacy's focus on creativity and hard work, particularly in creating job opportunities for the youth in the constituency. He plans to provide skills training, lobby for developmental projects, and leverage the untapped potential of the area for overall development.
Confident in securing support from delegates this time, Obour highlighted his loyalty and continuous support for the party and the constituency, even after losing the previous primary.

“I am totally committed to working very hard to make it happen. It will be a great history to be a part of, and I am leaving no stone unturned to help achieve that,” he affirmed.
Obour intends to pick the nomination forms when the party opens nominations on Wednesday, December 20, 2023. The NPP has announced its internal election to elect parliamentary candidates in constituencies with sitting MPs on Saturday, January 27, 2024, with nominations closing on Monday, December 25, 2023.
