"The Chamber Doors Will Be Locked At Exactly 10am From Next Year" - Speaker Warns Ministers

The Speaker of Parliament has announced that starting from the next meeting, the doors of Parliament will be locked at 10 am to address the issue of late starts due to MPs' lateness. 

Alban Bagbin expressed his frustration at having to wait for MPs to begin the business of the house and emphasized that if they do not want the new rule enforced, they must agree to start sitting at 2 or 4 pm.

He stated that it is not acceptable for the Speaker to have to wait for MPs and announced that the doors will be locked at 10 am, with a delay before they are opened. If compliance is not possible, he suggested that sittings be moved to the afternoon.

"There is nowhere in the world where the Speaker will have to go and sit and wait for MPs to come in, it does not happen. So please from the first meeting of the fourth session of the Eight Parliament of the Fourth Republic, at 10 am, the doors will be locked," he stated. He continued, "It will take some time before it will be opened. If we are not able to comply with it, let's all agree sittings will start in the afternoon.
