The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi, has refuted allegations of disrespecting the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and the Asante Kingdom.
In an interview with Wontumi radio, Chairman Wontumi reiterated his deep respect for Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, affirming that he would never undermine the revered king or challenge his authority. He urged Ghanaians to dismiss the accusations, labeling them as entirely false.

"I have immense respect for the Asantehene and the Asante Kingdom and would never do anything to tarnish its reputation. These allegations are baseless lies. I am incapable of such actions. Anyone wishing to spread falsehoods can do so," he stated.
Chairman Wontumi has been accused of making disrespectful remarks about the Asantehene, with Nana Kwaku Duah, Chief of Kokoso, and Manhyia South NPP Constituency Chairman Ofori Attah (also known as Tom-Tom) officially lodging a complaint with the Kumasi Traditional Council.
In response to the complaint, the council summoned Bernard Antwi Boasiako to appear on January 22, requesting his presence next week on Monday, January 29, to address questions regarding the reported derogatory comments allegedly made during the vetting of parliamentary aspirants in Manhyia South.

The NPP General Secretary conveyed that Chairman Wontumi is unwell and requested a two-week grace period for his appearance. However, there is ongoing outrage among council members, who are insistent on Chairman Wontumi's appearance, even if he has to attend in a wheelchair.
In a bid to address the issue, NPP leaders, including the General Secretary and National Organizer, visited the Manhyia Palace.
