Stop Using Our IGF - Ghana School of Law to Gov't

The government's repeated appropriation of the Ghana School of Law's (GSL) internally generated funds (IGF) has sharply hampered the school's plans for infrastructural expansion, hence the school has made a passionate plea to the government to stop.

The school's director, Barima Yaw Kodie Oppong, highlighted the negative effects of this systemic issue while drawing attention to the GSL's significant financial contributions to the government and the ensuing restrictions on the school's ability to expand its infrastructure.

At the 994 successful candidates' induction ceremony who passed the law school entrance exam, Barima Yaw Kodie Oppong emphasized the negative impact of the GSL's financial transfers to the government.

Expounding on the staggering financial outlay, he revealed that in 2023 alone, the GSL disbursed over 12 million Ghana cedis to the government. This significant outgoing financial commitment has curtailed the school's ability to execute essential infrastructure projects tailored to accommodate the burgeoning enrollment of law students.

Speaking to Speaker of the House Alban Bagbin, Barima Yaw Kodie Oppong called for the government to stop allocating the GSL's IGF and offered assistance in resolving this financial burden. He expressed the organization's strong desire to expand its infrastructure and the urgent necessity of lifting the financial restrictions imposed on the school's IGF in order to solve the obvious shortcomings in the school's infrastructure.

He also begged the Speaker of Parliament to support a legislative decrease in the GSL's IGF's percentage allotment, stressing how critical it is to lift financial constraints in order to support the school's revolutionary infrastructural development. He made a strong argument for the GSL's IGF to be released, outlining a more rapid schedule for all-encompassing infrastructure development and positioning to accommodate the surging student population.
