On Wednesday 20th September 2023, a report was released concerning a group that called itself Democratic Hub planning to stage a three-day protest near Ghana's Jubilee House. Following this, the police requested a court order to prevent the group from holding the protest. However, later in the day, the group sent a notice of their intention to go on with their plans.
On Thursday 21st September, the Police arrested 49 individuals who were allegedly planning to protest in front of the Jubilee House, the official residence of the Ghanaian government. The suspects were apprehended within the vicinity of the Jubilee House and the 37 Military Hospital area.
The Police stated that the arrest was made due to the organizers' disregard of the court order preventing them from staging the demonstration. The Police emphasized that they do not take pleasure in barring groups from protesting, but the disagreement with the organizers regarding the venue led to their actions.
The Police urged the public to disregard any invitations to participate in unlawful demonstrations until the court's decision on the matter. The protesters had planned to advocate for various reforms, including a reduction in the cost of living, an end to corruption, and enhanced governance.
