An Accra High Court heard
testimony from Safina Mohammed Adizatu (popularly known as Safina Diamond), a
student who is charged with killing her Canadian boyfriend in Ashalley Botwe in
July 2022.
The Adentan District Court
committed Safina to stand trial at the High Court in August 2023 for the
killing of Frank Kofi Osei, a Ghanaian citizen who resided in Canada. At
Ashalley Botwe School Junction in Accra, Frank was brutally murdered while
paying Safina a visit.
The court approved Safina's
prior bail of GHc500,000 during a virtual session. Safina was also mandated to
report biweekly to the Homicide Unit of the Ghana Police Service by the sitting
judge, Mrs. Justice Mary Maame Ekue Nyanzuh.
The trial was set to start
on October 13, 2023, when the substantive judge is anticipated to accept
Safina's plea and appoint a jury. Safina argued in the hearing before the
district court that she was innocent of the murder accusation the police had
brought against her.
The state intends to call nine witnesses during the trial, including Michael Fiifi Ampofo Arku, who was initially detained as an accomplice but later released on the Attorney General's advice.

According to the
prosecution's case, Osei visited Safina at Ashaley Botwe School Junction on
Sunday, July 24, 2022, when he was on holiday in Ghana and made the decision to
spend the night with her.
The prosecution alleges
that Osei's body was later transported from the first floor of the building
down the staircase and dumped at the gate of the house where Osei had parked
his Toyota Tundra. Safina allegedly called the police, reporting that her
boyfriend, who had visited her, had died in her room. When the police arrived,
they found Osei's body at the gate of Safina's house and subsequently arrested
her.
