The Minority in Parliament has expressed its intention to summon the National Security Minister, Albert Kan Dapaah, to address the reported cases of military brutalities in Garu, located in the Upper East region of Ghana. Members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are determined to demand justification for the actions of the military.

Cletus Avoka, a Member of the Interior and Defense Committee of Parliament, hinted at their plan to bring this matter to the attention of Parliament for further action. He stated, "We will request that Speaker Alban Bagbin invite the Minister of National Security, Kan Dapaah, to come and address the House. We will then appeal to the Speaker to set up a committee to investigate this." Mr. Avoka recalled a similar incident in Wa, where soldiers went on a rampage and assaulted civilians due to the theft of a soldier's motorbike, leading to a committee investigation.
Additionally, Mr. Avoka highlighted that the Minister would be compelled to provide updates on all other incidents of a similar nature. The intent is to ensure transparency and accountability for these alleged military excesses.
Meanwhile, Albert Alalzuuga Akuka, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Garu, has announced his intention to petition the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to investigate the alleged military brutality against his constituents. Mr. Akuka strongly condemned the actions, considering them both brutal and unlawful. He demanded an official apology from the military high command for the behavior exhibited by its personnel.
According to Mr. Akuka, the residents of Garu were subjected to abrupt and brutal beatings on October 28. He expressed concern that even individuals engaged in reciting the Quran inside a mosque were assaulted, purportedly in the search for weapons. Mr. Akuka emphasized that the military's actions were savage and called for accountability from those responsible.
The MP insisted that the incident in Garu was unwarranted, and barbaric, and demanded an official apology from the military high command addressed to the people of Garu and the entire nation of Ghana.
