Following a prior offer from South Africa, Ghana, and South Africa have reached an agreement regarding the implementation of a visa waiver for ordinary passport holders. This means that individuals holding ordinary passports from either country will be exempt from obtaining a visa for a cumulative period of 90 days per year. The implementation of this waiver is set to commence on November 1, 2023.
The South Africa High Commission in Accra released a statement on Friday, October 13, conveying this welcome news. According to their statement, both governments have agreed to implement the visa waiver for ordinary passport holders, allowing them a total of 90 days per annum to freely travel between the two countries without the need for a visa.
However, it is important to note that should individuals exhaust their 90-day allocation within the twelve-month period, they will be required to apply for a visa in order to enter South Africa. This requirement aims to ensure compliance with immigration regulations and maintain the integrity of the waiver system.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, on behalf of Ghana, also issued a statement confirming the agreement. They stated that Ghana and South Africa have established a visa waiver regime specifically for ordinary passport holders, and it will come into effect on November 1, 2023.
