(Naa Amanua) |
Naa Amanua, a seasoned traditional musician best known for her work with the Wulomei ensemble, is pleading with the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO) and the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) to provide monthly funding for elderly musicians. The renowned singer underscored the significance of paying elderly musicians fairly, stressing the need for equitable treatment of veteran musicians in an interview with Graphic Showbiz.
"As seasoned artists, we shouldn't need to pursue MUSIGA and GHAMRO to get the pay we're due for our years of dedication. They must give us what is owed, as is only fair, said Naa Amanua.
The musician made the point that because they entered a field where other artists were already active, it sends a bad message if they are not treated well. Naa Amanua believes that they should serve as a source of motivation for the younger musicians and expressed her disappointment in the current living conditions of aged musicians.

"At this stage of our lives, the young ones should be inspired by us, but unfortunately, we are not living lives that are worth emulating," she expressed.
Naa Amanua, who is 74 years old, finds it troubling that fellow aged musicians are not leading comfortable lives despite their contributions and dedication to the industry. She believes it is high time MUSIGA and GHAMRO extend a helping hand and implement measures to support them.
"I am in contact with many musicians from my generation, and I can assure you that things are not going well for them. Many of them struggle to make ends meet, and it is disheartening to witness these talented musicians face hardship due to systemic inefficiencies," she shared during a recent interview with Graphic Showbiz.
Naa Amanua's appeal highlights the pressing need for MUSIGA and GHAMRO to prioritize the welfare of aged musicians, recognizing their significant contributions to the music industry. By establishing mechanisms to provide regular financial assistance, these organizations can offer essential support to musicians who have dedicated their lives to their craft.
