Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta has reassured the public that the stalled La General Hospital Project will recommence construction within the upcoming week. The minister revealed that successful renegotiations have taken place with the contractor, ensuring that funding for the project will now be derived from the national budget. Furthermore, he emphasized that the contractor has been instructed to make significant progress by the end of the year.
Mr. Ofori-Atta underscored the government's firm commitment to seeing through the successful completion of this crucial project, aiming to fully realize its intended objectives.
During a parliamentary session, he stated, “The Government has renegotiated the contract terms of the La General Hospital Project and will now be funded through the national budget. The contractor is expected back on site next week to complete a significant amount of work by 2024.”
Adding to the development, Health Minister Kwaku Agyemang-Manu also shared that the Project will be brought to completion within the same project scope but at a reduced cost of €50 million.

The La General Hospital faced demolition in July 2020 following reports of severe structural issues. Subsequently, President Akufo-Addo initiated the Hospital Redevelopment Project on August 10, 2020, to address these challenges. Despite this, construction had not yet commenced.
During his briefing, Mr. Agyemang-Manu stated that at the 37th Cabinet sitting, President Akufo-Addo directed the Ministers of Trade and Industry, Health, and Finance to seek alternative sources of funding to resume the project. As a result of the combined efforts of this three-man committee, the Minister of Finance has now identified local funds to continue the project with the same project scope, but at a revised cost of 50 million Euros.
