Former President Mahama stressed that the intrinsic value derived from protecting the country's forests supersedes the short-term financial gains that may stem from extracting gold deposits. Speaking to residents of Duayaw Nkwanta as part of the "Building Ghana Tour" in the area, Mahama emphasized the party's dedication to upholding its manifesto promise of preserving forest reserves by steadfastly denying mining concessions within these vital ecological areas. Highlighting the critical importance of forest protection, the former President iterated his commitment to ensuring the preservation of these essential environmental resources.

Forestry preservation has become a pressing concern for residents in the region, with worries about illegal mining and logging continuing to imperil the integrity of forest reserves. Additionally, the adverse impact of illegal mining on water bodies within these reserves has been a growing concern, contributing to ecological damage in these areas.
