In response to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's assertion that the 24-hour economy is already being implemented in most sectors, the Flagbearer of the NDC, John Mahama, has addressed the implications and scope of this proposed policy.

Mr. Mahama clarified the intentions behind the 24-hour economy initiative, contending that the current operation of some businesses around the clock does not negate the need for a policy that incentivizes additional companies to adopt this operational model.
Emphasizing the potential impact of such a policy, Mr. Mahama highlighted its capacity to address the critical issue of Ghanaian youth embarking on perilous journeys across the Sahara and Mediterranean in pursuit of opportunities in Europe.
However, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia criticized the proposed policy, citing Mr. Mahama's alleged lack of understanding of its implications.
Subsequently, Mr. Mahama took the opportunity to elucidate on the initiative during an engagement with students of the St. Joseph's College of Education at Bechem, marking the commencement of the 'Building Ghana Tour' in the Ahafo Region.

He clarified that the 24-hour economy initiative would be voluntary for interested institutions, indicating that those organizations willing to work in shifts beyond the conventional eight-hour schedule could opt-in. Furthermore, Mr. Mahama underscored that companies participating in the extended shift system would receive tax incentives as a measure of support. Additionally, the policy would encompass provisions for security and other essential resources to facilitate increased employment opportunities.
Mr. Mahama reassured the public of ongoing efforts, with a dedicated team of experts actively finalizing the policy document, demonstrating a concerted and systematic approach to the development and implementation of this transformative economic policy.
