National Security Steps In To Halt "Fixing The Country Movement" From Picketing At Mahama's Office

Amidst the brewing tension surrounding the 'Fixing The Country Movement's intention to picket at former President John Mahama's Labone office, top officials of the National Security Ministry have reportedly stepped in to prevent the demonstration from taking place. The movement's planned picketing is rooted in their call for greater action from the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) regarding the Airbus scandal.

Reliable sources indicate that the National Security Ministry viewed the planned picketing as a potentially perilous precedent, raising concerns about protests being organized at private offices, even if the individuals involved are seeking public office. As a result, the Ministry held discussions with the leader of the Movement, Ernest Owusu Bempah, and other members, strongly urging them to abandon the planned exercise.

A source within the National Security Ministry emphasized that, after extensive engagements with the leadership of the 'Fixing the Country Movement,' it was agreed that the proposed demonstration be called off due to perceived threats it posed to the state's security. Additionally, the general public has been explicitly instructed to refrain from gathering for the purpose of staging any such demonstration. The deployment of law enforcement officials along designated routes on the scheduled day of the demonstration has been arranged to ensure strict adherence to this directive.

It's worth noting that the 'Fixing the Country Movement' had previously notified the police of their intention to exercise their constitutional rights under Article 21(1)(d) and (f) of the 1992 Constitution to picket at the former President's office on several occasions, citing their discontent with what they perceive as a lackadaisical approach by authorities in investigating the Airbus corruption saga. They have rescheduled the event multiple times, with the most recent date being Thursday, November 23.

The movement asserts that their planned protest aimed to underscore their dissatisfaction with the perceived lack of action concerning the Airbus scandal and their conviction that Mr. Mahama must address lingering questions, as the scandal cannot simply be brushed aside. Furthermore, the organization emphasizes its commitment to public accountability and emphasizes the principle that no one is exempt from being held accountable.
