NLC Meets With Mortuary Workers Association To Address Impending Strike


Today, on Wednesday, November 29, the National Labor Commission (NLC) is poised to engage in dialogue with the leadership of the Mortuary Workers Association of Ghana (MOWAG) as they seek to mediate the impending indefinite strike announced by the association. The meeting holds promise as a pivotal point in attempting to find a mutually agreeable resolution.

Richard Kofi Jordan, the General Secretary of MOWAG, expressed the association's unwavering commitment to proceed with the meeting in the spirit of goodwill and optimism. Speaking to Citi FM on Tuesday, November 28, Mr. Jordan emphasized their dedication to exploring all legal pathways in addressing the prevailing grievances.


In his interview, Mr. Jordan underscored the association's intention to approach the upcoming meeting with a sincere commitment to due process, stating, "We are trying to respect the law by going to the Commission in the morning because we want to see what the Ministry or, for that matter, the government is bringing on board finally to the table." Additionally, he reiterated their sincere intentions, emphasizing that their decision to pursue strike action was born out of frustration with unfulfilled commitments by relevant authorities rather than a desire to inconvenience the public.

The Mortuary Workers Association of Ghana has taken concrete steps to ensure their message is communicated effectively. They have formally informed six government institutions of their intent to initiate a nationwide strike. The notified bodies include the Ministries of Health, Employment and Labor Relations, National Security, Finance, Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, and the National Labor Commission. Through an official press statement released on Monday, November 20, and signed by Richard Kofi Jordan, the association conveyed their concerns and expressed their earnest desire to seek resolution through meaningful communication.
