School Placement For 2023 BECE Candidates Released Today

The 2023 Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) into Senior High Schools and Technical and Vocational Education and Training Schools (TVET) has been officially launched today. This was officially announced in a press statement from the Ministry of Education.

According to the Ministry's statement, a total of 598,839 results were received from the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), out of which 585,797 candidates have successfully qualified for placement. In an impressive statistic, 81.56% of these candidates, totaling 477,772 individuals, have been automatically placed in one of their preferred choices. This represents a substantial improvement over the previous year's figures. However, 18.44% of qualified candidates (108,025 individuals) could not be matched with any of their selected choices.

In light of this, the Ministry has recommended that the affected candidates engage in a process called 'self-placement,' allowing them to manually select from available schools. Notably, it has been emphasized that schools selected through the self-placement portal can be changed multiple times until the candidate enrolls in a school.

To ensure a smooth and fair process, the Ministry has assured all students, especially those who were not initially matched with their choices during the automatic placement, as well as parents and the general public, that all schools with vacancies have been uploaded on the portal for students to freely select from during self-placement without any difficulties.

Moreover, in a bid to maintain the integrity of the placement process, the Education Ministry has issued a warning against illicit activities, specifically cautioning against the payment of money to individuals who falsely promise to change a student's allocated school. It has been reiterated that the Computerized School Placement is entirely merit-based.

In addition to this, Heads of Institutions have been directed to commence registration and orientation activities from the 4th of December 2023.
