Stay and Contribute to National Development - President of Accra College of Medicine to Medical Professionals

The distinguished president of the Accra College of Medicine, Professor Afua Adwoa Jectey Hesse, has made a strong case for medical professionals to stay in the nation and actively support its swift progress.

Throughout her speech, Professor Hesse urged a firm commitment to national development, stressing the role that each and every person plays in advancing the country's progress. She emphasized the need of fostering a sense of allegiance to one's own country and warned against rushing to pursue chances abroad at the expense of regional advancement.

These words of encouragement were shared during a significant White Coat ceremony arranged to mark the induction of students at the School of Medicine and Pharmacy of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in Ho, Volta Region, into their clinical year following the successful completion of their pre-clinical training.

Under the theme, "The Path to Entrepreneurial Excellence in Healthcare," Professor Hesse challenged the budding healthcare professionals to cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset, encouraging them to innovate and create avenues for self-empowerment rather than solely relying on governmental support.

Integrity was a focal point in her discourse, as Professor Hesse emphasized ethical values within the healthcare sector, urging adherence to truthfulness and moral uprightness. She underscored the principles of fairness, advocating against discrimination based on social status or financial standing, and championed the ethos of treating all individuals with dignity and respect.

Furthermore, she counselled the students to prioritize continuous self-improvement, pursue excellence, and embrace creativity as essential tools in seizing opportunities for personal and professional growth.

Professor Lydia Aziato, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, complemented these sentiments by emphasizing the paramount role of ethical conduct in healthcare, symbolized by the white coat denoting professionalism, compassion, and purity. She motivated the students to wholeheartedly commit to their academic pursuits and training to equip themselves with the necessary skills to excel in the healthcare domain.

Amidst the event, Prof. Aziato made a plea for support in completing the University's laboratory complex, underscoring the ongoing commitment to enhancing the educational infrastructure for the benefit of students and the broader healthcare community.
