He stated that President Akufo-Addo's decision to discard the 40-year National Development Plan, which was formulated during his presidency, has left the country in a dire state. Mr. Mahama highlighted the NDC's 24-hour economy proposal as a solution to change the country’s trajectory, emphasizing its inclusion in the party's 2020 People’s Manifesto.

He explained that the 24-hour economy initiative aims to transform Ghana into a self-sufficient and export-led economy by operating around the clock with a three-shift work schedule. Mr. Mahama clarified that the NDC does not intend to create a command economy with centralized planning, emphasizing the party's adherence to its social democratic ideology. He also emphasized that the initiative would create new, decent, and well-paying jobs for the youth, reduce unemployment, and improve the living standards of Ghanaians.
Additionally, Mr. Mahama highlighted the benefits of the expanded range of operating or working hours, including increased productivity, fully utilized resources, greater flexibility and convenience for workers, and improved access to goods and services for citizens.
He stressed the significance of the 24-hour economy initiative in setting Ghana on the path of recovery and criticized the replacement of the 40-year National Development Plan with a Ghana Beyond Aid plan, which he claimed has turned Ghana into a beggar nation under President Akufo-Addo's administration.
