GPRTU Applauds Dr. Bawumia On Launching 'Tap n Go' Taxi App

The Office of the Vice President and the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) have formally inaugurated the Tap n' Go digital taxi service in Accra. This creative program works similarly to well-known ride-hailing applications like Uber, Yango, and Bolt. It can be downloaded from the Google Play Store and the Apple program Store. A national rollout in the next year will follow the existing pilot program in certain areas of Accra, such as the Airport, East Legon, University of Ghana, Circle/Kaneshie area, and Dansoman.

The Chairman acknowledged the adverse impact of foreign taxi apps on Ghanaian taxi drivers, leading to a gradual erosion of their traditional business. This prompted the GPRTU to engage with Vice President Bawumia, where he assured them of a viable solution—an assurance that has now come to fruition. Speaking on behalf of the GPRTU, Nana Nimako Bresiamah conveyed their unwavering commitment to operating the Tap n' Go app with professionalism and integrity, ensuring that Ghanaians receive excellent service while upholding the esteemed reputation of the GPRTU.

The launch event also featured expressions of satisfaction and gratitude from taxi drivers towards Vice President Bawumia for his support in safeguarding their profession. Many drivers hailed the app as a crucial means to prevent job loss and praised the government's intervention in creating a platform that is truly Ghanaian and serves the needs of local drivers and citizens.

The Tap n' Go app offers unique features such as 'private dropping' for private cars operating as taxis, as well as a 'metered service' where passengers can instantly hail a taxi and a meter calculates the fare—an addition to the typical online service. Notably, there are two applications available—Tap n' Go for users and Tap n' Go Driver for interested taxi drivers, both accessible for download on the Google Play Store and Apple Store.

The Tap n' Go applications consist of the Tap n' Go app for users and the Tap n' Go Driver app for taxi drivers. Both can be downloaded from the Google Play Store for Android phones and the Apple Store for iPhone users.
