Iwan Urges Fellow Musicians To Address Social Issues in Their Music

Reggae/Dancehall sensation Iwan, also known as Abdul Razak, is making waves beyond his music by challenging his peers in the industry to use their platforms to confront pressing social concerns. The "Who’s Bad" hitmaker recently opened up in an interview with Graphic Showbiz, expressing a deep-seated concern that many artists refrain from tackling sensitive topics out of fear of alienating their fan base. He believes that this hesitance lessens the potential impact music could have on addressing critical societal issues.

In his no-nonsense style, Iwan emphasized the importance of fearlessly addressing issues that are often considered taboo. He pointed out that many artists are reluctant to delve into contentious subjects such as homosexuality, which have become prominent in today's society. Iwan firmly stated, “I will always speak about it because that is what our songs are supposed to do. Let us be bold and address these issues, as our songs are meant to help correct societal ills."

Iwan also voiced his frustration with what he perceives as a deliberate marginalization by the media due to his lyrical choices. Despite his efforts and dedication to his craft, he feels that his work has not been given the recognition it deserves. He expressed disappointment, asserting, “The issue is always straightforward. The media is not promoting me. I am doing all I can, but I am not getting the support. The media have sidelined me, making it appear as if some of us are not trying."

He firmly stated, “I will always decline that and speak about positive issues that urgently need attention in our society."
