Probe Into ECG's Purchase Of Motorbikes For Police Service - Former Minister For Power

Dr. Kwabena Donkor, former Minister for Power, has called for an inquiry into the Electricity Company of Ghana's procurement of 200 motorbikes for the Police Service. The donation, made by the ECG on Monday, 11th December 2023, aimed to bolster the operational capacity of the law enforcement agency. Keli Gadzekpo, the Board Chairman of ECG, led the company's management in this gesture and pledged an additional 800 motorbikes to be supplied in stages.

However, in a candid interview, Dr. Kwabena Donkor criticized the ECG management for the purchase, particularly in light of the company's significant indebtedness. He raised concerns over the decision of a financially challenged entity to make such a donation, emphasizing the irresponsibility of such actions, especially given the potential impact on the nation's security due to the company's financial liabilities.

Dr. Donkor further urged the Ministers for Energy and Public Enterprises to hold the ECG management accountable, advocating for a thorough investigation into the donation, citing its potential divergence from the national interest and the possibility of being driven by procurement-related motives.
