We Are Guided by Credible Evidence, Not Political Influence - EOCO to OSP

COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, the Executive Director of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), has made it clear that she conducts her investigations and prosecutions of crimes under her jurisdiction free from political influence.

This claim is made in response to recent events in which Cecilia Dapaah, the former minister of water and sanitation, was the subject of a suspected money laundering case that the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) submitted to EOCO for additional investigation and possible legal action.

Context of the Referral
After Cecilia Dapaah's charges were dropped for lack of adequate credible evidence, the OSP decided to refer the suspected money laundering matter to EOCO. An important turning point in the continuing inquiry and judicial procedures involving the former minister was this referral.

Independent Decision-Making
Addressing an anti-corruption forum, Madam Tiwaa Addo Danquah emphasized the importance of evidence-based actions and the adherence to legal protocols in carrying out investigations. She underscored the principle that credible evidence guides their decisions and interactions, asserting that external influences do not overshadow the pursuit of justice.

Madam Addo-Danquah elucidated the crucial role of solid evidence in prosecuting cases, highlighting the significance of transparency, accountability, and adherence to legal procedures. She emphasized the imperative of presenting substantial evidence in court proceedings, safeguarding the integrity of the legal process and upholding the rule of law.

Developments in the Money Laundering Investigation
Recent developments saw the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, dropping the application to uphold the seizure and freezing of assets and bank accounts related to Cecilia Dapaah. This decision followed prior legal actions, including earlier applications for seizure confirmation and freezing that faced procedural challenges.
