In response to unaddressed concerns, three labor unions representing workers in Ghana's public universities have issued a stern warning stating that they will proceed with a strike if the government fails to meet their demands. The Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA), Tertiary Education Workers Union of Ghana (TEWU-GH), and the Senior Staff Association-Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG) are specifically seeking the payment of their car and off-campus allowances, as previously agreed upon in a signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the government.

The labor unions have been vocal about the inadequate working conditions they face, prompting the signing of an MOU on December 8, 2022. However, the government and its affiliated agencies, including the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, have shown reluctance to honor the agreement. Despite the unions' attempts to resolve the matter amicably, the government's lack of willingness to comply with the MOU has left the unions with no choice but to take action.

Consequently, the labor unions have set a deadline for the government, giving them until Sunday, October 15 to address their concerns and fulfill the agreed-upon terms. Failure to meet the unions' requests within the specified timeframe will result in the initiation of a strike, ultimately disrupting the provision of services.
