During his visit, President Akufo-Addo expressed his sympathy and commiserated with the affected individuals. He highlighted that even though the residents of Mepe do not typically vote for his party, it did not diminish his duty as the President of the entire nation to provide support in times of crisis. The President's visit sought to reassure the victims that the government would take all necessary measures to address the current situation.

Acknowledging the severity of the crisis, President Akufo-Addo announced the establishment of nine safe havens in Mepe to ensure the safety of the displaced individuals. Additionally, relief items have been provided to those in shelters by the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO). The President assured the victims of continuing support from NADMO, emphasizing their intention to sustain relief efforts.

The President also addressed the issue of destroyed farmlands and pledged to collaborate with the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to find comprehensive solutions to the challenges faced by the affected farmers. This demonstrates the government's commitment to assisting in the recovery and rehabilitation of the affected communities.

Importantly, President Akufo-Addo urged Ghanaians not to politicize such unfortunate events. He emphasized that political affiliations should not hinder the government's responsibility to provide aid and support to all citizens, regardless of voting patterns. He reminded the audience that as the President, he took an oath to serve all Ghanaians and that his actions were driven by a sense of duty and compassion for those in need.

This comment has sparked a lot of strong reactions from netizens regarding the fact that the victims in times like this need consolation and relief, the president rather appears to be giving comments they deem as "political, rebuking and provocative". A number of opinion leaders in the region, specifically the Minority Chief Whip Kwame Agbodza has described the president's comment as a mockery. In spite of this, we hope the president extends the due help to the victims considering the fact that the entire region no matter what is under his jurisdiction.

The President's visit and his comments emphasize the importance of unity and solidarity in times of crisis. It is commendable that he made the effort to reach out to the victims and assure them of the government's commitment to resolving the situation. This sends a message that political differences should not overshadow the common goal of helping those affected by natural calamities.

It is worth appreciating the leadership displayed by President Akufo-Addo in prioritizing the needs of the affected communities over political considerations. Such gestures contribute to fostering national unity and reflect his dedication to serving all Ghanaians, regardless of their political affiliations.
