Duncan-Williams & Eastwood Anaba Withdraw From National Cathedral Board

Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams (Founder and General Overseer of the Action Chapel Churches Worldwide) and Rev. Eastwood Anaba (President of the Eastwood Anaba Ministries) have resigned from their positions on the board of trustees overseeing the National Cathedral project.

The duo made their decision known in a resignation letter addressed to the Office Of The President which was dated October 12, 2023, but made available to the press on October 17.

According to the letter, the decision of the two prominent pastors to step down is a result of the government's refusal to hire an independent accounting firm to audit the public funds contributed to the project. They explained that they had earlier written to the Board to ensure that the auditing was carried out before the project proceeded but that was not done as promised by the Board.

In their resignation letter, they cited failure on the part of the cathedral’s board to appoint an independent accounting firm to audit all public funds contributed to the National Cathedral project.

The pastors expressed disappointment that no audit findings have been released since January 2023 and called for transparency and accountability by appointing an impartial accounting firm to review the project's finances.

They also cited the challenging economic climate in Ghana as a hindrance to the timely completion of the National Cathedral, hence calling for the suspension of the project until the economy gets healthier.

They concluded the letter by encouraging the current Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral to appoint an impartial, nationally renowned accounting firm to audit all public funds contributed to and spent by the National Cathedral in the spirit and service of transparency and accountability to the Ghanaian people.

Since it was proposed, the project has sparked a lot of controversy and allegations of financial impropriety, with opposition lawmakers raising concerns about corruption.
