The incident involved a dawn military operation in Garu and Bugri, resulting in injuries to some residents. Security analysts, including Dr. Adam Bonaa, criticized the military invasion, stating that it did not appear to be a counter-terrorism operation due to the assault on the people. Dr. Bonaa emphasized the importance of involving locals in the fight against terrorism and expressed concern that the operation seemed to be aimed at brutalizing the community rather than countering terrorists.

The Ministry of National Security, in an earlier statement, explained that an irate youth group armed with weapons had attacked a team of counter-terrorism intelligence officers deployed to Garu on a special operation. The officers sought refuge at the Garu Police Station, where the irate youth continued their attack. The Ministry strongly condemned acts aimed at harming officials of State Security and Intelligence Agencies and impeding their efforts to safeguard peace and stability.
The Ministry also conducted a joint operation with the Ghana Armed Forces to seize weapons used in the attack and arrested several perpetrators. They emphasized their commitment to promoting citizen participation in safeguarding peace and stability but denounced deliberate acts that jeopardize the lives of security personnel.
