Following the closure of the Renal Dialysis Unit at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital to outpatients in May 2023, the Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, has issued a directive to immediately reopen the facility. The shutdown excluded in-patients who still had access to the unit. The closure was attributed to the delayed delivery of consumables necessary for the operation of the unit.

During a radio interview on Accra-based Citi FM on November 2, Isaac Baah Ofei, the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Health, confirmed that the Minister has instructed the Chief Executive Officer of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital to urgently reopen the Renal Dialysis Unit for outpatient services. Additionally, the Minister insisted on issuing a public statement to inform the general public about the resumption of services and the availability of access to the facility.
In response to the closure, Parliament has summoned Minister Kwaku Agyemang-Manu to provide an explanation for the closure of the Renal Unit at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital to outpatients. The Minister is expected to report to Parliament on November 9, 2023, to address the concerns surrounding the closure and provide insights into the measures being taken to ensure the continued provision of renal care services.
